Viewing Student InformationThis is a featured page

Reported by Marti Lambert and several others from Pierce College:

Description:
A. How do I check to see if a students has even successfully logged in to the classroom? In Bb, it was Course Statistics. Any suggestions on getting these students responding?

B. Also, how can students enter their "personal Information" so they can update their e-mail address. I would also like to be able to see their personal e-mail address to contact them if they have not logged in!

A. If you want to see who has logged into a given course, you can enter the course as a Course Admin. or Instructor, click the Report Tab, choose the Class category, Login Report for report type, and then click the Run button to run a report of login activity for the entire class. You will also need to set the date setting to how far back you want the report to go. There are Chart and Table views of the report, Table is probably best.

Report Tab Student Login Report

The Name column provides a list of your students and each is a link ot notes you add about attendance - perhaps they had shared they were traveling, etc. Logons column reports a count of how many times they logged in for the date/time range specified. Date details are provided in the next two columns. Total time reflects the number of hours and minutes they remained logged in, but it may be be an accurate reflection of real engagement in course work as they may have left their computer and not logged out!

B. To see the Interent e-mail address entered in the system when the student's account was prepared or last changed by the student, view the Communicate tab and select the link in the Course Roster nugget. If you see no e-mail address for any students in the resulting list (or an entry of none@none.com) and you verify they've not been active from a report like above, it would be advisable to get the student's phone number from Instructor Briefcase or the associated MyWAOL roster and give them a call!

If they are really still participating in the course, they should add their e-mail to their profile by clicking the Preferences button on the Left-hand "Power Strip" menu and selecting the Personal Information link where they can edit the address.

Is there any way to check that students are reading the discussion messages in the Discussion forums each week?
