It is important to be sure the faculty has an active ANGEL account before they are added to the roster. Creating the new account in the roster doesn't allow the option of assigning an Account Group and therefore the instructor won't be visible under your domain.

I have tried repeatedly to have Angel choose random questions from a question bank but I have been unable to do this. In Blackboard, I could just click on the chapters and each student would receive a different set of questions. In Angel, I am unable to do that. In fact, if I try to have it choose random questions, it will choose from anywhere in the textbook and not in specific chapters. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In fact, if you left-click on one of the categorical bars in the Grades Nugget, then you will automatically be redirected to the Reports Console. Thanks Ed.

Some of you may look at this and think "What is her problem? In "Search View", just click the tick-box in the header that 'selects all' and then mark all as 'read'. Easy."
Yes, well, if you have a tick box, it is. I heard rumors of other people's tick boxes, but I didn't have one. Tick-box envy set in.
Whilst trying to fix an other problem, we found the solution to this one. Remove ALL Java programs - every last shred of them. Be sure to use the "Control Panel" remove programs options, don't just delete icons. Then, reinstall JAVA.
The 'select all' tick-box was getting lost in multiple versions of JAVA and its updates. Get a clean fresh Java and the box will appear. You can mark-all-read just like the other kids now.
Best,
Suzanne

Discussion fora weaknesses in Angel

Obvious basic changes that should be made to Angel's discussion fora asap.
Tom
• Having to click a tiny little "Mark This Read" box for every message opened is very time-consuming and hugely distracting. Messages should automatically be marked as read when they are opened. Or (second best) there should be a way to batch-mark a bunch of messages as read.
• It should be possible to open a forum with both "nested" and "unread" as defaults. Currently it's possible to set "nested" as a default, but not "unread."
• It should be possible to tell, by looking at the list of discussion fora, which fora have new messages in them, perhaps with a flag, or color change, or the word "new." Without this it is far too easy, for both faculty and students, to completely miss new postings.
• It should be possible for both faculty and students to set a default "look" to all their posted messages (font, color, size, etc). In a long threaded discussion that helps a person read the back and forth comments much more easily.
• It should be possible to "quote" a portion of (or all of) a message you are replying to, and have it appear in your reply message. This makes compex discussions much more do-able.
• There should be a way to make an expanded view (no +s) the default view in discussion fora.
All of these are extremely basic. Every email program allows all of these. Everyone who uses email would expect these same basic things in their classroom discussion fora.
• Also, it should be possible to open two sections of a class in the same browser so a person can work simultaneously in two sections, side by side. This business of having to use two separate browsers is just silly. When someone is teaching four sections of a class will they have to find four separate brands of browsers?

Hi Tom, All excellent and valid points. These are basic navigation functions for most forum discussions. Jeff

Click Utilities below a given assessment, then click View, Edit, or Delete Submissions. If you click View next to a students assessment submission then you can view the graded assessment.

Thanks so much. Now, another question. I figured out how to have the students view their exam. What view do I need to choose (full review, list, etc) so that they see the comments I made to their essays. I set the review for full review this time and since I took the exam first, I can go in to look at it. However, I did not comment on any of my essay responses, so I don't know if my comments are visible to the students.

Suzanne, I was wondering if there is anything special an instructor must do to their "assignment" items to make them appear in that Milestones/Milestones report? Or is that an automatic feature for anything prepared as a graded assignment?

Not sure if this posted earlier, so I'll ash again. What's the trick to make sure that when I respond to a posting, the person's post appears in the little boxy at the top? Sometimes, I see only the word "null". I know it has something to do with the little wondows above with their drop down boxes. Is there a particular view (nested or threaded ) that I need to be set at, so the person's message appears when I try to reply. Thanks.

I just wanted to pass on this experience. I use the Opera web browser. I prefer it to both IE and Firefox. Unfortunately, I have discovered some important incompatibilities, such as not being able to create working discussion forums. That could prove to be somewhat troublesome, I suspect. There are also other small issues involving Angel graphics. Needless to say, I am back to using Firefox for my Angel activities. I'd appreciate hearing about any other similar issues others have discovered.
